10,000 Hits Already !! January 9, 2008

I’ve just noticed that the hits counter has just reached 10,000 hits.

I’m quite excited as I actually saw it displaying the 10000, being one of those weird people who would drive around the block a couple of times just to see the mileometer reading in the car reach some “special” number. I screamed with frustration once when I just missed 12345 scroll past, 123456 just seemed such a long way away ….

I must admit I had absolutely no idea how many people would read this Blog when I started it almost a month ago. Starting a Blog was something that was mentioned and suggested to me a few times when I attended and presented at the Unconference at Oracle OpenWorld last year.

Now I must admit, I don’t really know whether 10,000 visits in less than a month, including the Christmas Holidays, is actually a lot or not, but if someone asked me a month ago how long I thought it would take me to reach 10,000 hits, I would have guessed (and hoped somewhat) in 6 months or so. So it’s certainly a lot more hits than I ever thought I would get at this early stage.

So to have generated so much interest, so many comments, there’s over 150 although lots are mine I know 🙂 and so many emails is really really, umm what’s the right word, I guess “nice”.

So thank you all for your interest and involvement !!

If someone can give me a bit of warning just before 20,000 is reached, I would appreciate it !!

10,000? So who were the three visitors besides me? 😛

I don’t think i would drive a round the block to see it, but i would drive with my camera.

Oh, congrats Richard.

Congratulations Richard, but this is so reasonable after all, I am a fan of your blog and I reference you if any index related discussion happens 🙂

I think you will see 100,000s immediately during 2008, best regards.

Congrats, Richard. 20,000 hits in less than half the time it took for 10,000 hits, I guess :-).

Congratulation Richard! With 10.000 page views a month you are doing quite well for your first month, especially for December.

Greetings from the other side of the world 🙂

Thanks for all the cool comments.

I love the odometer photos, especially as it was taken while travelling at 50+ MPH 🙂

I’m actually 42 years old (for the next 6 months or so), here’s hoping I get to understand what the “answer” to life is soon 😉

I’ll be on “the other side of the world” in June presenting my 2 day Index Internals seminar in various countries for Oracle University (Belgium, UK and The Netherlands confirmed at this stage) so I might get to meet some of you then. Just had my photo taken for the promotional flyers, yikes !!!

Hope all is Hunky Dory, managed to sneak one in 🙂

Some interesting things on compressing indexes coming soon …

“I love the odometer photos, especially as it was taken while travelling at 50+ MPH :)”

Heh. Well, actually, my speedometer is about five miles per hour off at that speed, so it was probably closer to 45. And, you can see i was slowing down. As it so happens, i was getting off I-75 onto exit 78, when i was working at DaimlerChrysler.

Ooh, nearing 10.5 hits already. You’re zooming!

Hi Brian

You’ve inspired me, however I’m planning on going one step better.

Next time I get the opportunity, I’m going to film the whole experience so I can replay it again and again 🙂

How’s that for sad …

Tee hee. I had my camera sitting on the airbag/horn cover that the steering wheel goes around. Which of course would explain why the picture is on a tilt when i was getting off on an exit. 🙂

The camera is even a more ridiculous idea of recording this most auspicious moment, but i assume (yes, i know) that while people are willing to click on a picture, clicking on a video takes even a higher degree of boredom. Hmm.. though, that might save on the bandwidth.

I just had the car worked on. I’m beginning to doubt that i’ll be recording 246810.0 or even 2345678.9, whilst i’m hardly over 133k now.

I see a current 19,307 hits. My guess is 20k is fast approaching.
